Meet Yadeta Berhanu
Yadeta is one of the local heroes who donates his time to mentor children staying at Tree House Children’s Family Home. This is his story:
"With Lakisama Foundation it was my first time to be in a children’s home. I thought those places were for rich people and NGO’s to visit and support. I didn’t think there was anything I could contribute.
When asked to be a mentor I gladly accepted, because I know how important #education is. I'm from a small town in Ethiopia where there was no high school. I had to move out of my parents house to get better education. Fortunately, I had people who supported me and guided me on the right path. That definitely helped me to be where I am today.
I want to do that for others and am super excited to be part of this! I sincerely invite you (especially Africans) to go visit Tree House. You can put a smile on at least one person's face and you’ll get a joy that I cannot describe.
All that these kids need, is for someone to go there and hug them, that’s it. Any kind of support beyond that is a blessing. As one Ethiopian philanthropist said, ‘‘To help someone, all you need to be is a human being.’’
I want to thank Myrthe for taking me there and also the people who the kids call mom and dad, Nick and Nadia.
Loads of love, Yadeta!"
